Dollar Point Yoga Weekend 3: Independence Day Yoga
Summer Yoga at Dollar Point consists of Friday yoga on the grass by the pool and Saturday yoga on the beach by the lake. This weekend's class focuses on our sense of body position, known as 'proprioception'. A heightened body awareness through practice and training not only helps prevent injury but also deepens your overall focus and control.
An asana (Sanskrit) is a body position that is steady and comfortable. It was originally a general term for a sitting meditation pose but was extended in hatha yoga to any type of position, adding reclining, standing, inverted, twisting, and balancing poses. Common yoga poses ending in asana are Virabhadrasana (warrior pose), Dandasana (staff pose), Tadasana (mountain pose). With each pose, we will pause and use our senses of sight, touch, balance, and proprioception to observe and perhaps tune our bodies postion.
